I waited a long time.
When I finally got to go and swim in event #14, heat 1, in lane 7, I was happy. Events and heats is how they divide the racing sessions. We had to do a 100 breaststroke. Surprisingly, out of eight 11-12 year-old boys, I got fifth. I was congratulated by my coach and my family.
I waited another long time. While I did, I played 31 (a card game Papa Don taught me) with another swimmer on the Elgin Cyclones. My coach had some cards, and she asked if I had something to do. I said no. So my coach gave me some cards to play with.
Finally, I got to swim again. I was in event 16, heat 1, in lane 3. We had to do a 50 freestyle. I got last.
Afterwards, I had a bagel. Swimming is fun (and if you're asking, I did not get a T-shirt this time).
Yo Cavan...it was fun watching you this morning in your new sport. You have a very smooth swimming stroke. Glad you enjoy this! (you are lucky the bagel was there when you returned from getting dressed)
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky? I am totally lucky!
DeleteHey Cavman,
ReplyDeleteIt sounded like you had a pretty good swim meet even though you didn't get a t-shirt. I like that you call them "Fist Meet," or "Second Meet." It helps me keep track. i'm glad you were able to play 31 while waiting. Good blog writing again. Keep up the good work in swimming and blogging!
So I should keep the "First Meet" and "Second Meet" thing? Thanks. Ohhh.... you made a mistake. It says "Fist Meet".
DeleteLove reading about your swimming! I can't believe you had to wait in the gym until it was your turn- what a drag! I always enjoyed watching the other swimmers. Sounds like breaststroke might be your stroke! Keep up the hard work!!
